Boulogne-sur-Mer, a major fishing port in the Pas-de-Calais region of France, is currently facing multiple challenges. The rising cost of marine diesel is impacting the fishing industry, with some trawlers hesitant to go out to sea, leading to reduced fish availability and higher prices. The French government is offering support to fishermen affected by fuel price increases, exacerbated by the conflict in the Middle East, but industry groups deem these measures insufficient. Beyond the economic issues, Boulogne-sur-Mer holds historical significance. The town houses the Casa San Martin, a museum displaying a replica of the sword of Argentinian independence hero General San Martin, who spent his final years there. Recently, the town was also the planned site of a far-right protest dubbed "Operation Overlord", aimed at protesting immigration. French authorities arrested two British far-right activists and extended an order prohibiting British participants, highlighting concerns about extremist activity in the area.
