Donges

Donges is the location of a TotalEnergies refinery situated on the north bank of the Loire estuary in France. It's newsworthy due to its role in France's energy strategy, particularly concerning fuel prices and energy supply. Recently, the French government has called on refineries, including the one in Donges, to increase production in response to rising oil prices caused by geopolitical tensions, such as the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz. This request aims to mitigate the impact of higher crude oil prices on consumers at the pump. Furthermore, TotalEnergies has secured a long-term nuclear power supply contract with EDF, starting in 2028, to cover a significant portion (60%) of the electricity needs of its refining and chemical sites in France, including Donges. This agreement highlights Donges's significance in the broader context of France's energy independence and transition towards cleaner energy sources for industrial processes.
