E1 area

The E1 area refers to a strategically significant tract of land located between Jerusalem and the Israeli settlement of Ma'ale Adumim in the West Bank. This area is currently under Israeli control and is earmarked for the construction of Israeli settlements. Recent news highlights that Israel is advancing plans for construction in E1, a move that has generated considerable international backlash. The Palestinian community of Khan al-Ahmar is situated within this area, and its fate is closely linked to the E1 development plans. The proposed settlements in E1 are seen by many as a significant obstacle to a two-state solution, as they would effectively sever the connection between the northern and southern West Bank and create a contiguous bloc of Israeli territory from Jerusalem to the Jordan Valley.
