Guinea, a West African country, is currently facing significant political upheaval. Mamady Doumbouya, who led a military takeover in 2021, has been sworn in as president after being declared victor in the country's first election since the coup. He is transitioning from a military leader to a civilian president. However, his rule is facing strong opposition. The government recently dissolved 40 political parties, including the three main opposition groups, leading to accusations of establishing a one-party state. Opposition leader Cellou Dalein Diallo has called for "direct resistance." Recent reports also indicate gunfire in the capital, Conakry, near the central prison, adding to the instability. Despite the political turmoil, Guinea is also attracting attention for its connection to the African diaspora, with US film stars Meagan Good and Jonathan Majors becoming citizens after tracing their ancestry there.
