Halmahera Island

Halmahera Island is an Indonesian island located in North Maluku province, known for its active volcano, Mount Dukono. The island is currently newsworthy due to a recent eruption of Mount Dukono. Tragically, three hikers were killed in the eruption, and an additional 20 hikers, including nine Singaporeans, were trapped in the vicinity. Mount Dukono has been under an elevated alert status since April 17, and the area was reportedly closed to visitors, highlighting the risks taken by those who entered despite warnings.
