Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge

The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge (HZMB) is a 55-kilometer bridge and tunnel system connecting Hong Kong, Zhuhai, and Macau. It's a vital transportation artery facilitating movement between these regions. Recently, the HZMB has been in the news for two distinct reasons. First, Hong Kong customs officers intercepted a smuggling attempt at the bridge's control point, seizing nearly 1,000 live turtles being transported in a private vehicle. This highlights the bridge's role as a potential conduit for illegal activities. Second, a new scheme allowing Guangdong drivers to enter Hong Kong has seen significant uptake, with approximately 600 drivers utilizing the bridge during the Lunar New Year holiday. This initiative underscores the bridge's increasing importance in facilitating cross-border travel and economic integration within the Greater Bay Area, despite ongoing concerns about smuggling and illegal activities.
