Iron Dome

Iron Dome is a mobile all-weather air defense system developed by Israel to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells. It is designed to protect populated areas from attacks. Recently, Iron Dome has become newsworthy due to reports of its failure to intercept incoming rockets during attacks on Israel, specifically near Tel Aviv and in the south of Israel near a nuclear facility. These failures resulted in dozens and over 100 injuries respectively. These incidents raise questions about the system's effectiveness against certain types of attacks, including those involving cluster munitions. The news comes as Israel achieves record arms sales, highlighting the demand for its battle-tested weaponry, even as the performance of key systems like Iron Dome comes under scrutiny. Israel is also developing Iron Beam, a laser weapon system, as a potential complement or successor to Iron Dome.
