La Torre

La Torre is a district (pedanía) in the south of Valencia, Spain. It is currently newsworthy due to two separate issues. Firstly, the Ayuntamiento de València is finalizing modifications to the Sector La Torre Special Plan to allow for the construction of elevated parking structures. This is in response to the severe flooding (DANA) experienced in 2024, which caused significant damage and loss of life in underground garages. The aim is to mitigate future flood risks. Secondly, a 31-year-old woman was arrested in Valencia for alleged family abandonment after her 11-month-old baby was hospitalized with severe malnutrition and traces of cocaine in his system. The baby was taken to Hospital La Fe by his maternal grandmother, who also reported her daughter to the authorities. These events highlight both the infrastructural challenges faced by La Torre and social issues within the community.
