Lake Superior

Isle Royale, a large island located in the western part of Lake Superior, is a national park known for its unique ecosystem. Currently, the island is newsworthy due to two distinct developments. Researchers have reported that the wolf population on Isle Royale is thriving, with packs successfully preying on moose. However, this success is leading to a significant reduction in the moose population, which serves as their primary food source. In a separate incident, a 70-year-old hiker, Craig Berg, was recently rescued on Isle Royale after being missing for a week. He was found injured and hypothermic but alive and alert, thanks to the efforts of backpackers, state police, and the US Coast Guard. These events highlight the ongoing ecological dynamics and the inherent risks associated with visiting this remote natural laboratory.
