Lozère

Lozère is a department located in France. Recently, it has been in the news for two distinct reasons. First, a forest fire ravaged 110 hectares in the commune of Altier, east of Mende, on April 3, 2026. Strong winds fueled the blaze, requiring the mobilization of 150 firefighters. While the fire was eventually brought under control, it remains under surveillance. Second, Lozère demonstrated a high level of civic engagement during the second round of municipal elections held on March 22, 2026. The department recorded one of the highest voter participation rates in France, surpassed only by Cantal and Corse-du-Sud. This contrasts with other departments that experienced lower turnout.
