Makassar is the capital city of South Sulawesi province in Indonesia. It's newsworthy due to the recent disappearance and subsequent discovery of wreckage from a fisheries surveillance plane that was en route to the city. The aircraft, operated by Indonesia Air Transport, lost contact with air traffic control while approaching a mountainous region on Sulawesi island.
