Minneapolis

Minneapolis has recently been in the news due to several significant events. The city was the location for the funeral services of Melissa and Mark Hortman, prominent figures in Minnesota's Democratic party, following their murder. A man has pleaded guilty to their killings, with federal authorities opting not to seek the death penalty. Separately, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent was arrested in Texas in connection with the shooting of a Venezuelan man during an immigration raid in Minneapolis. The city was also indirectly affected by a flight diversion; a United Airlines flight from Chicago to Minneapolis was diverted to Madison, Wisconsin, due to an unruly passenger attempting to breach the cockpit. Additionally, a CBS "60 Minutes" segment reportedly examined an immigration officer's killing of a Minneapolis protester, though editorial interference was alleged. The Minnesota Republican party also faced criticism for holding a moment of silence for Derek Chauvin, convicted of murdering George Floyd, which angered the state's attorney general.
