Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji is a culturally significant and iconic mountain in Japan. Recently, it has been newsworthy due to issues arising from increased tourism in the surrounding areas. Specifically, the city of Fujiyoshida, near Mount Fuji, has cancelled its annual cherry blossom festival due to unmanageable tourist numbers. This influx has led to traffic congestion, littering, and instances of trespassing and public defecation in private gardens, causing distress to local residents. Separately, Mount Fuji was also featured in news reports when a meteor was captured on CCTV soaring through the night sky above it. The meteor sighting, recorded by the Hiratsuka City Museum, highlights the mountain's continued presence in both cultural and natural events, despite the challenges posed by tourism.
