Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga is a province in northeastern South Africa. Recent extreme rainfall events have brought it into the news. The region, along with other parts of Southern Africa including Mozambique and Limpopo, has been experiencing devastating floods. These floods have resulted in fatalities, mass evacuations, and significant disruption. Specifically, Graskop in Mpumalanga recorded 113mm of rain in 24 hours. The Kruger National Park, a famed safari destination located partly in Mpumalanga, has been forced to suspend visits and evacuate guests and staff due to the flooding. The intense rainfall and subsequent flooding highlight the vulnerability of the region to extreme weather events and the challenges posed by climate change.
