Nepal is a South Asian nation. It is newsworthy due to the recent arrest of former Prime Minister Sharma Oli, along with the former Minister of the Interior, in connection with the deadly repression of protests that occurred in September. Official reports indicate at least 77 people were killed and over 2,400 injured during the riots. These arrests followed the inauguration of Balendra Shah, a 35-year-old rapper and mayor of Kathmandu, as the new centrist Prime Minister. Separately, while an 'Eurovision Asia' contest is being launched in Bangkok in November 2026, Nepal is not among the ten countries currently announced as participants. The Eurovision Asia event aims to attract a large audience, with organizers hoping for 600 million viewers.
