Paseo de la Reforma

Paseo de la Reforma is a major avenue in Mexico City, renowned as a central hub for public gatherings and celebrations. It is particularly famous for the Angel of Independence monument, a key landmark where large crowds often congregate. Recently, the avenue became the focal point for mass celebrations following Mexico's victory in a World Cup match against Ecuador. Thousands, reportedly over a million people, took to the streets along Paseo de la Reforma to celebrate the team's 2-0 win. Tragically, these celebrations were marred by the deaths of three individuals, including a 19-year-old woman, a 48-year-old woman, and a 44-year-old man, who succumbed to suffocation due to the immense crowd density. The avenue's significance is underscored by its role as a venue for national events, both joyous and, as demonstrated by these recent events, sometimes tragic, highlighting its importance as a public space for collective expression in the capital.
