Pontpierre

Pontpierre is a village located in the Moselle department of the Lorraine region in France. Française de l’énergie (FDE), a gas company, confirmed the presence of this large hydrogen reserve in March. The discovery is considered strategically important for decarbonizing the economy, as natural hydrogen is a potential source of clean energy. The size of the deposit is estimated to be equivalent to 14 years of Belgium's electricity consumption. This discovery has spurred interest in neighboring Belgium, prompting the Belgian government to allocate resources to explore its own soil for similar hydrogen reserves.
