Redruth

Redruth is a town in Cornwall, England, known for its rich tin and copper mining history, evidenced by the presence of grand stone engine houses. It is currently newsworthy due to the launch of a pioneering geothermal plant by Geothermal Engineering Ltd (GEL) near the town. This plant aims to access underground resources to generate electricity and extract lithium, marking a potential resurgence in resource utilization in the region. The plant began feeding electricity into the grid on Thursday. Separately, a Tesco store in nearby Helston, approximately 200 miles from Wales, mistakenly used Welsh language on in-store signs instead of Cornish, highlighting a lack of awareness of local language and culture. While the Tesco incident didn't occur directly in Redruth, it is relevant due to its proximity and the broader context of Cornish identity and language preservation.
