Sagunto

The Cofradía de la Puríssima Sang del Nostre Senyor Jesucrist, the organizing body for Semana Santa in Sagunto, recently voted against changing its statutes to allow women to participate, maintaining a long-standing tradition of excluding them. This decision has drawn criticism and prompted the Ministry of Equality to investigate, citing potential violations of equality laws and labeling the situation as systematic discrimination. The government plans to take the case to the Fiscalía (Prosecutor's Office). The issue has sparked debate about tradition versus equality, with a local group, Semana Santa Inclusiva de Sagunto, actively advocating for women's inclusion. Separately, unrelated to this issue, a 27-year-old woman was seriously injured in Sagunto after being struck by a falling window.
