Shan State

Recent elections held in the region are widely considered a sham, with many popular parties banned and voting inaccessible in large areas. Secondly, Shan State has been a hub for criminal activity, specifically scam centers operated by organized crime families with ties to China. The recent execution in China of 11 members of the Ming family, who ran scam centers in Myanmar along the border, highlights the cross-border nature of these criminal enterprises and China's efforts to address them.
