Stratford-upon-Avon

Stratford-upon-Avon is a town in England primarily known as the birthplace of William Shakespeare and home to the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC). The RSC is a major theatre company that stages productions of Shakespearean plays and other works. Stratford-upon-Avon is currently newsworthy due to the RSC's upcoming productions. The RSC will stage a prequel to George RR Martin's *Game of Thrones* this summer, titled *Game of Thrones: The Mad King*. Martin himself stated the RSC was the “obvious choice” for the play. Additionally, the alt-rock band Placebo is collaborating with the RSC to create the score for a new production of Bertolt Brecht's *The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui*, a play about the rise of a Chicago mobster as an allegory for Adolf Hitler's rise to power. Mark Gatiss is directing the play. These productions highlight the RSC's continued significance in the world of theatre and its ability to attract both established and contemporary talent.
