Trouée d'Arenberg

The Trouée d'Arenberg, also known as the Arenberg Trench, is a challenging and iconic cobbled section of the prestigious Paris-Roubaix cycling race, often nicknamed "Hell of the North." It's a long, straight stretch of uneven cobblestones through the Arenberg Forest, known for its difficulty and often decisive impact on the race's outcome. Recently, the Trouée d'Arenberg has been in the news due to the theft of its cobblestones. Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), the race organizer, reported that individuals, possibly armed, have been removing pavé (cobblestones) from this and other key sectors, creating dangerous holes and potentially jeopardizing rider safety. This act of vandalism has raised concerns about the integrity and future of the race, highlighting the importance of preserving this historical and challenging element of Paris-Roubaix.
