Villabona

Villabona is a prison located in Asturias, Spain. It gained recent notoriety as the detention center for 'Las Seis de la Suiza' (The Six of La Suiza), a group of six union members (five women and one man) from the CNT labor union. They were convicted of coercion and obstruction of justice related to protests in Gijón defending a female worker. Their case became a symbol of debate surrounding the limits and potential criminalization of union actions. They entered Villabona prison on July 10th of the previous year to serve their three-and-a-half-year sentences. Recently, the Spanish government approved a pardon for 'Las Seis de la Suiza', bringing the case to a close and highlighting ongoing discussions about workers' rights and the role of unions in Spain.
