Woro

Woro is a small, Muslim-majority village located in the Kaiama district of Kwara State, Nigeria, bordering Niger State. It is a rural community. Woro is currently newsworthy due to a recent deadly attack. On Wednesday, February 4, 2026, suspected jihadist fighters attacked Woro and the neighboring village of Nuku. The attackers, numbering over 100 and dressed in army fatigues, reportedly sent a letter prior to the attack stating their intention to preach. When no one attended, they launched a violent rampage, killing residents, burning homes and shops, and looting. Reports indicate that at least 167 people were killed in the attacks, making it one of the deadliest armed assaults in Nigeria this year. Dozens of women and children were also reportedly kidnapped. The Nigerian government is deploying an army battalion to the area in response to the massacre. The event highlights the ongoing security challenges and the threat of jihadist violence in Nigeria.
