Zuwara

Zuwara is a coastal location in Libya, now newsworthy due to a recent tragic incident involving a migrant boat. On Friday, a rubber boat carrying 55 passengers, including two babies, capsized in the Mediterranean Sea north of Zuwara. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that 53 people are either dead or missing as a result of the incident. Only two survivors, both Nigerian women, were rescued by Libyan authorities. This event highlights the ongoing crisis of migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe. The incident brings the total number of deaths or missing persons on the central Mediterranean route this year to at least 484, underscoring the perilous nature of these journeys and the urgent need for international cooperation to address migration and ensure the safety of vulnerable individuals.
