African Commission on Human and People’s rights

The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) is a principal organ of the African Union, established to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms across the African continent. This complaint, filed by an international coalition of lawyers, specifically targets Equatorial Guinea at the ACHPR, seeking to halt expulsions where deportees allegedly face political violence, torture, and death. This action, supported by a joint statement from UN human rights experts and a representative of the ACHPR, highlights the Commission's current relevance in addressing severe human rights concerns and exerting diplomatic pressure on member states to uphold international human rights standards.
