The award commemorates Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, creator of Pippi Longstocking. ALMA is newsworthy because the 2024 laureate has just been announced: illustrator Jon Klassen. Klassen, known for his distinctive picture books featuring minimalist art and humorous storytelling, was selected from a pool of 263 nominees from 74 countries.
