The firm, through its association with veteran political lobbyist Roger Stone, a confidant of former US President Donald Trump, has been hired to "rebuild" relations between Washington and the junta-backed government. This move by Myanmar's leaders, who seized power in a 2021 coup and face international isolation and accusations of atrocities, aims to rebrand the regime. Stone's lobbying efforts, reportedly for $50,000 a month, seek to improve the junta's image in the US. While the appointment may offer a slight hope for the regime, significant breakthroughs on major issues like US investment in Myanmar's critical minerals sector are expected to be limited due to the ongoing international condemnation and human rights concerns surrounding the military government.
