The Departamento de Salud is the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Cataluña, the autonomous government of Catalonia, Spain. It is responsible for overseeing and managing the public healthcare system within the region. Recently, the Departamento de Salud has been in the news due to a policy reversal regarding incentives aimed at reducing sick leave. Initially, the department planned to use the duration of temporary disability (IT) leaves for musculoskeletal and mental health conditions as indicators for allocating funds to Primary Care Teams (EAP) and calculating performance-based pay. However, following criticism, the department, led by Olga Pané, has retracted this plan, removing these indicators from the funding and calculation criteria. Separately, the judicial system in Barcelona, which operates independently of the Departamento de Salud, is handling a case of alleged child abuse, highlighting the broader context of public health and safety within Catalonia.
