Department of State Services

The Department of State Services (DSS) is Nigeria's primary domestic intelligence agency, responsible for counter-intelligence, internal security, and counter-terrorism operations. It plays a crucial role in maintaining national stability and protecting the country from internal threats. The DSS is currently newsworthy due to its involvement in recent large-scale rescue operations. Following a presidential order to address a surge in kidnappings, the DSS, alongside other security services, has been instrumental in freeing hundreds of abducted citizens. Notably, recent operations have led to the rescue of 308 kidnapped individuals across Niger and Kwara states, as well as participation in the hunt for hundreds of worshippers kidnapped from mosques in northern Nigeria. These developments highlight the DSS's ongoing significance in combating the persistent crisis of kidnapping and ensuring the safety of Nigerians amidst escalating security challenges.
