Global Strategic Litigation Council

The Global Strategic Litigation Council (GSLC) is an international coalition of lawyers and advocacy groups focused on using legal avenues to challenge human rights abuses. Their current work highlights concerns over the deportation of individuals from the United States to third countries where they may face persecution or harm. Recently, the GSLC has filed significant complaints with prominent human rights bodies. One such action targets Ghana at the Economic Community of West African States' human rights court, accusing the nation of facilitating deportations to countries where individuals could face serious danger, despite prior US judicial rulings deeming such destinations unsafe. Concurrently, another lawsuit has been lodged with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, challenging the US practice of deporting individuals to Equatorial Guinea. These cases underscore the GSLC's commitment to holding nations accountable for human rights violations related to international deportation policies and protecting vulnerable populations from forced return to perilous situations.
