Intermarche is a prominent French supermarket chain. The organization is currently newsworthy due to its involvement in a significant cyberattack that affected over 500 shops across France. This attack specifically targeted the refrigeration systems of multiple retailers, including Intermarche, Cooperative U, and E. Leclerc. Hackers manipulated the systems, causing freezer and fridge temperatures to rise as high as 50 degrees Celsius (122F). The consequences were severe, leading to the spoilage of tonnes of food and even causing fires at several store locations. This incident highlights a growing vulnerability in the retail sector to sophisticated cyber threats and underscores the potential for substantial operational and financial damage.
