International Islamic University Malaysia

The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) is a public Islamic university in Malaysia, established in 1983. It is currently in the news due to two separate controversies. Firstly, the university formally distanced itself from an academic who made unsubstantiated claims about ancient Malay civilization, including that Malays could fly and taught the Chinese "flying kung fu." This led to the academic's sacking and drew ridicule from historians. Secondly, IIUM faced criticism for inviting Abdul Razak Baginda, the former lover of a murdered Mongolian woman, to an event. This invitation sparked anger and calls for a review from the university's own academics.
