ISIL affiliate in West Africa Province

The ISIL affiliate in the West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Boko Haram, is a prominent jihadist group operating primarily in northeastern Nigeria and the wider Lake Chad Basin region. This group has recently been in the news due to significant military operations and attacks. In a notable development, Nigerian forces, in collaboration with the United States military's Africa Command, conducted joint strikes that reportedly killed 175 ISWAP fighters in northeastern Nigeria. This operation is part of an ongoing campaign to counter terrorist activities in the region. Separately, Chad has declared a period of national mourning following a deadly Boko Haram ambush that resulted in the deaths of two generals and at least 24 soldiers.
