Islamic State West Africa Province (Iswap)

Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) is a militant Islamist group and a splinter faction of Boko Haram, affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS). It operates primarily in the Lake Chad region, particularly in northeastern Nigeria. ISWAP is currently newsworthy due to its intensified attacks on Nigerian military bases and the ongoing trials of individuals associated with the group. Recent events include ISWAP's overrunning of four military bases in Borno state in early March, resulting in the deaths of at least 65 Nigerian soldiers. Furthermore, nearly 400 people have been sentenced in Nigeria for their links to ISWAP and Boko Haram, highlighting the government's efforts to combat the insurgency.
