Janjaweed

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with roots in the Janjaweed militias, is a Sudanese paramilitary group currently engaged in a violent conflict with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). The RSF's actions are newsworthy due to the significant civilian casualties and widespread violence attributed to them. Recent reports detail a major RSF raid in North Darfur, resulting in at least 28 deaths and numerous injuries in Misteriha. Furthermore, the RSF has been blamed for a drone strike on a school in White Nile province, killing at least 17 people, mostly schoolgirls. The conflict, which began in April 2023, has seen both sides increasingly utilize drones, leading to increased civilian suffering. The RSF's actions highlight the devastating impact of the conflict on Sudanese civilians and the evolving nature of warfare with the use of readily available drone technology.
