Mountain View Academy

Mountain View Academy, located in Dandridge, Tennessee, is a facility for youth offenders. It is currently newsworthy due to recent reporting by ProPublica and WPLN that revealed significant safety and oversight concerns. Specifically, the facility, operated by Wayne Halfway House, allegedly failed to report multiple abuse incidents to the state as legally required. This has prompted four Democratic Tennessee state lawmakers to send a letter to the Department of Children's Services demanding answers regarding safety protocols and the department's oversight of such facilities. The situation at Mountain View Academy is particularly relevant as many states are closing youth prisons, while Tennessee appears to be expanding its capacity, making the safety and effectiveness of existing facilities a critical issue.
