National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery exists in both London and Washington D.C. and is dedicated to exhibiting portraits of historically important and/or influential people. Recent news highlights several activities and controversies surrounding these institutions. In London, a portrait of Lily Allen by Spanish artist Nieves González, used as her album cover, is now on display. Also exhibited is a rare photo of Elton John with his family. A Lucian Freud exhibition focusing on his portrayal of women is also featured. In Washington D.C., the National Portrait Gallery, part of the Smithsonian, has replaced a portrait of Donald Trump and removed a placard referencing his impeachments and the January 6th attack, sparking debate. Furthermore, a gold coin featuring Trump's likeness, modeled after his portrait at the gallery, has been approved.
