Orange House Project

The Orange House Project is a sanctuary in Lebanon dedicated to sea turtle conservation, run by the late Mona Khalil. For over two decades, Khalil, a renowned marine activist, protected a vital nesting site for turtles near Tyre. She actively involved volunteers in maintaining the beach and monitoring the turtle population. The organization gained recent tragic prominence due to the death of Mona Khalil, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an Israeli strike on her home. Khalil, aged 76 or 77, was a beloved figure in Lebanon for her extensive work in environmental protection. Her passing highlights the risks faced by conservationists and the vulnerability of ecological efforts in conflict zones. The Orange House Project, through Khalil's lifelong dedication, represents a significant, albeit now tragically impacted, effort to preserve marine biodiversity along the Lebanese coast.
