Oxfam GB

Oxfam GB is a UK-based international charity focused on alleviating global poverty. It is part of the larger Oxfam confederation. Currently, Oxfam GB is newsworthy due to two distinct issues. First, an Oxfam trustee, Dr. Balwant Singh, resigned from the board citing “cruel and inhumane” treatment of the former chief executive, Halima Begum, and expressing a loss of confidence in the board's governance, integrity, transparency, and accountability. Singh characterized these failures as serious and systemic. Second, Oxfam released research highlighting the disproportionate carbon emissions of the world's wealthiest individuals. The research indicates that the richest 1% will have exhausted their 'fair share' of carbon emissions for 2026 within the first ten days of the year, while the richest 0.1% did so in just three days. This underscores Oxfam's ongoing work to address climate inequality and its impact on low-income communities.
