Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is a local government entity in British Columbia, Canada, encompassing several communities. It is currently newsworthy due to the significant impact of the Bald Range wildfire. This fast-moving fire has rapidly expanded, covering over 95 square kilometers and directly affecting the RDOS. As a result, thousands of residents within the district and surrounding areas, including the entire community of Summerland (approximately 12,000 people) and about 8,000 people in and around Peachland, have been forced to evacuate their homes. The wildfire is racing towards communities along Okanagan Lake, and has already destroyed homes in its path. The RDOS is therefore critically relevant as it is on the front lines of a major natural disaster, coordinating emergency responses and managing the displacement of a large population.
