Simulacra, through its associated tech company Realbotix, is a Toronto-based organization involved in developing and piloting humanoid robots for educational settings. The company recently became newsworthy when a New York school district, Salamanca City Central, announced plans to introduce their humanoid robot as part of a pilot program alongside an AI teaching assistant. This initiative, however, faced significant backlash from educators and community members who criticized the plan as "inappropriate" and dehumanizing to the teaching profession. Concerns were also raised by local Native American residents. In response to the widespread criticism and data privacy concerns, the Salamanca school district announced on July 24th that the pilot project has been put on hold.
