The State Railway of Thailand is the operator of the country's rail network. It is currently newsworthy due to a tragic accident in Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeast of Bangkok, where a construction crane collapsed onto a moving passenger train on January 14, 2026. The incident resulted in the derailment of the train and the crushing of carriages, with at least 32 fatalities and 66 injuries reported. Among the injured are a one-year-old and an 85-year-old, with seven in critical condition. The train was carrying nearly 200 passengers at the time of the accident.
