Temu is a Chinese online shopping platform known for offering low-priced goods. It has rapidly gained market share, even attracting German vendors to sell on its platform. However, Temu, along with other similar platforms like Shein and AliExpress, is facing increased scrutiny and regulation in Europe. The EU is implementing a new tax on small packages originating from outside the EU, including those from these platforms, starting July 1st. This tax aims to address concerns about product safety, environmental impact (textile waste), and unfair competition with European businesses. The French government intends to maintain its own tax despite potential circumvention strategies by these platforms.
