The Elders

The Elders is an independent group of global leaders, founded by Nelson Mandela, who work for peace and human rights. Currently, they are newsworthy due to their strong statements regarding the conflict in Palestine. Recently, The Elders, through former Irish President Mary Robinson, stated that Israel is "trying to make Palestine disappear," accusing them of "erasing Palestine physically, economically, culturally and politically." This statement comes in the context of ongoing violence, with reports indicating a significant number of attacks on Palestinian journalists. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate documented 108 attacks by Israeli forces and settlers against Palestinian journalists and media workers in July alone, adding to the over 270 journalists killed in Gaza since October 2023.
