Together for Catalonia (JxCat)

Together for Catalonia (JxCat) is a Catalan nationalist political party in Spain. The party is part of the broader Catalan independence movement and advocates for Catalonia's self-determination. JxCat is currently newsworthy due to its role in recent parliamentary votes in the Spanish Congress. The party's stance and voting decisions significantly impact the minority socialist government's ability to pass legislation. Specifically, JxCat's support is crucial for the government, which relies on smaller nationalist parties from Catalonia and the Basque Country to pass key initiatives. In recent events, the government lost crucial votes on housing crisis decrees after failing to secure sufficient support, highlighting the delicate balance of power and JxCat's influence. The party's current relevance lies in its position as a kingmaker in Spanish national politics, where its parliamentary actions can either bolster or hinder the government's agenda, particularly on social and economic issues.
