Transmed

Transmed is a gas pipeline that transports natural gas from Algeria to Italy, both via pipeline and as Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) via tankers. It is currently newsworthy due to Italy's efforts to increase its gas supply from Algeria. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni recently visited Algeria to announce strengthened cooperation between the two countries with the goal of increasing Algerian gas deliveries to Italy. This is particularly relevant given disruptions to global energy supplies, potentially exacerbated by conflict in the Middle East. While Algeria and Libya are being considered as alternative hydrocarbon sources, experts suggest their capacity to replace Gulf supplies in the short term is limited. Transmed's existing full operational capacity highlights the challenges in rapidly increasing gas flow to Italy.
