Unidad Militar de Emergencias

The Unidad Militar de Emergencias (UME), or Military Emergency Unit, is a branch of the Spanish Armed Forces responsible for providing disaster relief. It is deployed in situations of severe risk, catastrophes, public calamity, or other needs. Recent news highlights the UME's active role in responding to various emergencies across Spain. Most recently, the UME was deployed to Gran Canaria to assist with the impact of Storm Therese, which caused significant rainfall and related incidents. Prior to that, the UME was also dispatched to Sierra Espuña in Murcia to combat a wildfire. These deployments demonstrate the UME's ongoing importance in mitigating the effects of natural disasters and supporting local authorities in protecting citizens and infrastructure.
