US Space Force

The United States Space Force (USSF) is a military service branch of the U.S. Department of the Air Force, established in 2019. Its mission is to organize, train, and equip space forces to protect U.S. and allied interests in space, providing space capabilities to the joint force. The USSF is in the news due to concerns about China's growing space capabilities. A US Space Force general recently stated the US needs to develop offensive capabilities to counter China's expanding surveillance satellite network. Furthermore, the USSF is involved in maintaining and operating space-related infrastructure, such as the Pituffik Space Base in Greenland, highlighting its role in global security and strategic partnerships. The re-entry of the Van Allen Probe, confirmed by the US Space Force, demonstrates its role in tracking and monitoring objects in space, even those no longer operational.
