Utumishi Girls Academy is a girls' school located in Gilgil, Kenya, approximately 120 kilometers northwest of Nairobi. The institution has recently gained notoriety due to a tragic arson attack that occurred in the early hours of a Thursday morning. The fire tore through the upper floor of a dormitory, which housed 135 bunk beds, resulting in the deaths of at least 16 students and injuring dozens more. In response to the incident, police have arrested eight students who are alleged to have been involved in the suspected arson.
